Welcome to my website.
Thanks so much for visiting. Let me put the kettle on.
About Me

My name is Jess (Jesse if I’m trouble). I’m currently a full-time student, part-time writer, and freelance graphic designer.
I grew up in a council estate – if you live in the UK, you’ll know it’s not the fanciest of places. For everyone else, a council estate is where they stick the poor people (for my US readers, it’s similar to the ‘projects’) so the upper classes can forget we exist. Being a modern day medieval peasant comes with a unique set of challenges. Challenges like having to go to the corner shop with the meter stick to put money on it if you want to be warm for the day, or having £5 to do a food shop. Some challenges were slightly more disturbing, like sleeping with a machete under your bed, or leaving the house for school one morning and there’s a car on fire in the middle of the road. Wild.
Being a peasant didn’t stop me from accessing media. Cartoons, anime, comics, books, WWE, and video games played a huge role in my childhood (and subsequently my writing style). My friend Mike would steal his sister’s VHS tapes, and we’d watch things we weren’t supposed to like Dominion Tank Police, Robocop, and the Alien trilogy. We sat there, enraptured and horrified. Sigourney Weaver became my new hero. My mum was furious.
I loved reading as a kid. My favourites included the R.L Stine Goosebumps books, Jacqueline Wilson, Philip Pullmans Dark Materials, Linda Aronson, Tolkien, Robin Hobb, and many more. I was voracious and unstoppable… Then I became a teenager and discovered online gaming, Wilbur Smith, seasonal depression, and Gundam Wing fanfiction.
At college I studied Psychology, English Language & Literature, Fine Art, and Philosophy. I received a degree in 2010 in Graphic Design & Advertising, and worked as a marketer, product & content writer, and graphic designer for a number of businesses in the UK.
